Sarah and Cory | Wedding at Ocean Key Resort Key West
Every time someone says to me: “… Gosh, you have such a great job” I just can’t help but smile from ear to ear. It’s true, I couldn’t think of a better career. I get to meet incredible people be a part of a day they will never forget and and it’s always such a happy occasion. Over the last 10 years in Key West I’ve had the incredible opportunity to style some pretty special brides with whom I have became friends. And I can happily say Sarah certainly falls into that category.
The moment I met Sarah for her hair and makeup trial, a few months before her wedding, I knew immediately this was going to be fun and I could hardly wait for her big day.
The couple had their wedding at Ocean Key Resort Key West. We met Sarah and her party in her suite the morning of the wedding and got everyone ready with hair and makeup. This was a super fun group of women, absolutely stunning! And there was no shortage of glam.
I did Sarah’s hair in an intricate upstyle that combined classic and modern touch. Her hairpiece is stunning! Her makeup, done by Galina, was airbrushed (Of course! My favorite kind, and a must for every bride!) and we emphasized her eyes to make them pop. Sarah made the great choice of opting for an LVL eyelash treatment a few days before the wedding.
What a fabulous, fun-filled wedding like you can only find here in Key West! This event was so stunning and their photography by Limelight simply gorgeous. I had so much trouble deciding which pictures to use for this post, so I chose a bunch!
What the Bride Has to Say About Her Key West Wedding
I love sharing the great wedding stories that I see as a part of my day-to-day at Studio Marie-Pierre, but it’s even better to hear the bride’s own feelings about her Key West wedding! I asked Sarah some questions about her big day, and here’s what she told me.
SMP: How did you and Corey meet?
Sarah: Cory and Sarah first met on Rexhame Beach in Marshfield, MA during the summer of 1994….we think 😉 Corey would run around the beach in front of his Uncle’s beach house playing tackle football and swimming with his cousins while Sarah would try and chase after Corey. Corey was Sarah’s first crush and she would write about him in her diary. But Corey wasn’t interested in the 13 year old tom boy…….he was spoken for. After that summer, they didn’t see each other again until 1999 when Sarah was cheerleading for the opposing football team and noticed Corey across the field playing. 15 years later, Corey found Sarah through an old friend on social media. Yes…Facebook! They had their first date on October 17, 2009. After months of playing hard to get, Sarah finally realized Corey was ‘the one.’ Corey popped the question on December 9, 2012 on the top floor balcony of the Liberty Hotel overlooking the City of Boston.
SMP: How did you choose your vendors?
Sarah: When planning a destination wedding the only way to choose the right vendors is to do A LOT of research. Wedding wire lead me to my venue, my photographers, and the very best hair and makeup team!
SMP: Why have your wedding in Key West?
Sarah: Picking Key West was very, very random. I had never even been there before! We both knew we wanted to have a destination wedding somewhere in the US…it was important to have our wedding last more than one night and to give people a great excuse to have a super fun vacation. We thought of a few other places and after looking into Key West it was a no brainer. The island feel, good time vibes, and breathtaking sunsets brought us to KW. It was the best decision!
SMP: Tell us about your wedding colors.
Sarah: I always thought navy was a classy wedding color. I came across gorgeous navy Monique Lhuillier bridesmaid dresses and found coral ties for the guys. Stick those colors on Sunset Pier with flowers from Milan and Voilà!
SMP: Tell me about your favorite moment at the reception.
Sarah: Our ceremony will forever be our favorite overall moment. The reception went by way too fast! But my favorite moment was dancing with Corey to our wedding song “You and Me.” Local musician, Brian Roberts played it for us on the guitar. It was our special time together to take it all in and just enjoy each other and reflect on what just happened!
MP: Tell me about your cake
Sarah: Nothing fancy here. I just went with basic cupcakes and a cake topper. We splurged on open bar and steak! Lol
MP: Tell me about your fabulous dress.
Sarah: It was my Mother’s dream to have me walk down the aisle in her 1977 Priscilla of Boston wedding gown. Two hours after being engaged, my Mom opened up the sealed box and made me put on the long sleeved, high neck dress…..I’m sure back then it was stylish. A family friend of ours, Lisa Taranto, is a talented seamstress and told me when I was a little girl she would make my wedding dress. She used the top of the dress and reused all the lace off the sleeves. She spent hundreds of hours hand stitching the lace, pearls, and beadwork. My Mother’s original veil was in amazing condition and she just had to readjust the comb. I will forever be grateful for Lisa’s hard work and commitment to making my dream dress come to life!
